Computer Monitor Terms

When shopping for a new monitor you will be faced with many terms that it can get a miniature confusing to work out what they all mean. In this record we discuss the distinct terms so that you are no longer confused.

[b]Flat-panel Monitor[/b]

Lcd - Lcd or Liquid Crystal Display monitors are the most beloved available. They are very contract and lightweight and don't use a lot of power. You will see some monitors being called flat panel. They are also Lcd but because of their thinness they are named that way.

Plasma - Plasma display monitors are flat panel and commonly come in larger sizes such as 32inc or more. They are distinct from Lcd although many people confuse them. They have been criticized for having large power consumption and reflecting more light than Lcd's and therefore causing glare.

Crt - Crt or Cathode Ray Tube monitors are used on older Pc's and they are vey hard to find these days on new Pc's. They offer some advantages such as very high difference ratios even higher than Lcd's but their disadvantages outweigh their advantages. They are heavy and bulky, consume a lot of power and older ones are prone to burn-in.

Widescreen - Lcd and Plasma monitors have widescreen meaning they give you exquisite viewing just like the movies.

When you're mental of buying a monitor for your computer the technology behind it, is not undoubtedly prominent for you as a buyer as long as it is not Crt you will be fine. You will need to think more about the size and cost, but it is worth knowing what the distinct terms mean.
